It was a long day on Saturday. Itinerary changed slightly taking a more southerly route due to weather, with our crew stopping for the night in El Dorado, Kansas, rather than original destination of Moundridge. El Dorado is approximately 50 miles ENE of Wichita. Total flight time Saturday: 5 hrs. 45 min. 2 fuel stops. Head wind: 15-25 knots, segment out for moderate turbulence below 8,000. Met Pamela Anderson and the Captain got a hug. (Why does he always get the ladies???????) Interviewed by Bethany, MO, newspaper. Aircraft working fine. Landed at El Dorado, KS 8:30pm.
Our crew is standing down in El Dorado, Kansas Sunday morning due to severe headwinds of 40+ knots, with ground speed of 50-60 mph. "The day gets longer with a headwind." As of this posting, temperature is 80 degrees, hot and windy. The biplanes are safely hangared, and morning maintenance is currently underway. The guys have been provided with a vehicle by the El Dorado Police Department ("Chevy Impala, purple upholstery, ratty, searchlight, so figure out what its use may have been in its former life..."). They are staying overnight tonight at the Holiday Inn Express, and plan to prevent crew fatigue at the pool today.
Early (0:00 dark-thirty) departure planned for Monday morning.
Over and out.
