Chuck Doyle's Travel Air Wing Hanging Party

Posted in Members | October 19, 2011

Chuck Doyle sent photos from a recent wing hanging party on his Travel Air. Chuck had this to say on the project:

Back in 1995 bought NC9958 a 1929 TravelAir 4000 from AAA/APM member Alex Whitmore and have had it at the fly-in many times. After winning the Ridgeview Flyers "Biggest Shitbox award" at the 2004 fly-in thanks to member Nathan Rounds, I decided on 11/18/2004 to disassemble the airplane for a quick recover only! It is now basically a new airplane with the help of a lot of friends and members of AAA/APM members including Jody Doyle, Forrest Lovley, Harman Dickerson, Ed "Sammy" Sampson,Clifford Hatz, Tim and John Verhoeven,Tom Brown and others.

MAAG's Blog: October MAAG meeting well attended

About 50 folks and 14 airplanes made it to Halstead, Kansas last Sunday for the October MAAG meeting sponsored by Mark Wiebe.  The weather was sunny with just a hint of cold helped along by some typical Kansas wind.  New business included discussions about the locations for the November and December meetings.  The November meeting will be sponsored by Earl Long and held at Dead Cow International Airport in Wichita.  Earl will provide chili; please bring a side dish or desert.

The Christmas meeting is still up in the air.  Due to the recent growth of the group, the traditional meeting at Cafe Moderne in Wichita may be beyond capacity.  Randy Shields offered his heated hangar as an alternate.  More details to come.

Here are some shots of the fun on Sunday at Wiebe Field:

The forecast was clear skies and light winds for this weekends Texas Antique Fly-In.  So I gassed up and flew the 170 the short flight north to Gainesville, Texas. This year my buddy Keith Moody rode along for the early morning flight up.  We arrived to 10 to 15 airplanes on the field and joined some friends enjoying the pancake breakfast.  As the morning passed the airplanes kept arriving.  We stopped to inspect airplanes around the field with the occasional stop to say hello to friends.  A few of this years highlights include a Rearwin Cloudster, Stinson SR-10, Howard DGA, DC-3, Call-air, N3N and Temco Pinto... and that is just a few.  I was going to call it good mid-morning and head back to my home airport when more airplanes kept arriving.  We made our visit last as long as possible then left just after lunch.  Another great event and great showing of rare aircraft types.  At the time of our departure there were well over 50 aircraft.  Pictures below showing a few highlights.  More pictures over at this gallery...

Pemberton Waco EQC-6 Interior Almost Finished

Posted in Members | October 08, 2011

Addison Pemberton in Spokane, WA sent an update with photos:

The interior on our 1936 Waco EQC-6 is now nearly finished and man "O" man does all that rich leather smell goooood. The interior is well sound proofed and sealed from exhaust and heat. I have directed the heater diverter over board and mounted the oil cooler between the gear lags which should keep things much cooler.

Also the wings are now painted and ready for trim so in a few weeks we will grow wings. The airplane will really look like an Aeroplane. This is getting fun and plan to make Waco noise in the spring.
