Dick Ramsey's New Luscombe Interior

Posted in Members | August 29, 2009

Dick Ramsey of the Texas Chapter sent some photos of the new interior in his Luscombe. It is looking good, and Silvaire logo treatment on the door is a nice touch! Dick will be at the National Fly-in in Blakesburg this coming week so folks can do close-up inspections.

Send Photos While You're Heading to Blakesburg

Posted in News | August 28, 2009

Heading out to Blakesburg soon? I hope to see you there.

To entertain fellow travellers and the folks who unfortunately can't make it, send a photo or two, and the backstory, of your in-progress trip to webmaster@antiqueairfield.com. I'll post them up to AntiqueAirfield.com.

If you use a SPOT locator, turn on tracking updates, set up a public tracker page and we'll publish the link here on AntiqueAirfield. Here's the link for Russell Williams who'll be flying out from Seattle starting Monday. Fun for the whole family.

Ryan is a Firestone Plane Again

Posted in Members | August 28, 2009

Russell Williams of Bellevue, WA has readied his Ryan SC-W for the AAA/APM National Fly-In, "Corporate Wings".

New Firestone logo on Ryan SC-W

Russell says: N18914 was purchased from the factory by Firestone Tire and Rubber to be a tire and brake testbed. To support the fly-in theme, Dustin King of Reid Signs in Seattle cut me out some letters sized to match this original photo from 1939. The rivet lines were the sizing guide and the new letters fit perfectly. Only 3 more hours of polishing left before taking off for Blakesburg!

Well-known New York city radio personality Dan Taylor (Dan Taylor Morning Show on WCBS-FM), and better known in the antiquer community as an aviation historian and AAA member, has his Waco F-2 back in the air. The airplane is now painted in the original scheme based on a 1931 factory photo of this particular airplane.

Fritz Schuetzeberg's Taylor Young A

Fritz also sent some photos about his Taylor Young A, and the lovely model next to the plane is Fritz's wife Rand.

Fritz Schuetzeberg's Taylor Young A

Fritz says: This plane has a big history and belonged to Mr. Peek, it is in Mr. Peeks book (s/n 260). I got it from Wallace Black just before the tornado got New Castle, OK. It has the original engine in it which was lost for 50 years, and reinstalled quite by accident. People come out of the woodworks wanting to buy this plane back because it was in there past and they find the N number on the computer, but for now it has adopted me, along with seven other antiques. Roger Freeman seems to have flown it when it was in Lavernia, Texas and I may have flown in it in the 50s in Seguin, Texas.

I want to fly it to the Blakesburg fly-in but not this year. The STUPID strut A/D.
