Wings Under Construction at Schellville

Posted in Members | June 23, 2011

Brian Meuser at Schellville airport, near Sonoma, CA, sent an update about the wings that he's been working on for the past several months:

Here are a couple of pictures of the 1931 CW Travel Air 12W lower right wing and a couple of pictures of the 1929 Cirigliano top wing. We we able to use the original spars and wing tip bows in both wings. I sold the Rearwin 7000 (under the covers in the background of the 12W wing picture). It was purchased by Tony Martinez from Great Bend, Kansas. Tony wanted to get a project plan that originally came from the state of Kansas. He promises we will see it at Blakesburg in 2012. The other fuselage in the picture is the CW Travel Air 12W.

Stinson Model O to Attend Blakesburg Fly-In

Posted in News | June 23, 2011

Arrangements have been completed to bring Brad Poling's Stinson Model "O" to Blakesburg for the 2011 Fly-In, "Life Begins at Forty". Brad says: If all stays in the green, we will be arriving Thursday.

In flight, the "O" just "does her do". A solid, "no surprises" airplane that one would expect from Eddie Stinson.

The "O" now has 120 hrs. & no serious problems mechanically. A tribute to Evergreen Aviation Restoration Services' skill and dedication to this project.

See you in the Fall,
Brad

Restoration Center Building Permit is Issued!

Posted in News | June 21, 2011

The APM Board has decided on a bid for foundation floor work and construction is expected to begin this week as soon as the weather dries out! The building permit has been issued.

At long last we will shortly be able to show some concrete progress on the Restoration Center. However we still need your help and support to move this project further ahead. The best way to do that is to contribute to the "Buy-a-Foot" campaign and become an "owner" in the APM Restoration Center. Only 812 sq ft (2840 total) remain. Brent Taylor Treasurer APM

Michigan Chapter Brings Back the Ground Loop Inn Coffeehouse at the APM

Posted in Chapter News | June 21, 2011

The Michigan chapter invites you to help with a fundraiser for the APM this year during the 2011 fly-in, "Life Begins at Forty".

Remember how we all made our way every morning to the patio of the "Ground Loop Inn" for coffee?

Remember the coffee cups that Dave & Isabel Warren sold with the year and the AAA logo?

Remember how we had to search the rack to find "our" mug?

Let's do it again!

So clean out your cupboards, pack up as many cups as you would like to donate to the APM, and bring them to Blakesburg; or save time and aircraft space by mailing them ahead of time to; Antique Airfield 22001 Bluegrass Rd. Ottumwwa, Iowa 52501. By putting a "coffee cup" notation on the box hopefully we'll avoid a headache/nightmare for headquarters.

The Michigan chapter will take care of the unpacking, setting up Dave Warrens original "Coffee House" on the patio of the "Ground Loop Inn", and selling the cups.

We look forward to seeing how many cups arrive from all over the country but the best part will be bringing back a part of Blakesburg many of us have missed plus sharing those Dave Warren coffee cups with the next generation of antiquers.
